Vanessa Latam hit a major career milestone, marking her 2,000^th career assist, helping the St. Lawrence University volleyball team to a split of their two contests as part of the triad opener of the North Country Classic this Friday in Canton, N.Y.

Latam's big play came on the 2-1 point in the opening set of the Saints' first match of the day against SUNY Cobleskill, when she stashed it toward the pin for an Araiza Acum-Santos kill.

The Saints went on to sweep Cobleskill 3-0 before falling in straight sets to Brockport later that evening.

Bridget Gammons was an offensive force over the two matches, posting a team-high 20 kills while hitting for .429. In addition to Latam's milestone, her 44 assists over the two matches pulled her into a tie for fourth all-time in program history. Her 2,043 career assists are a tie with Jenna Street, who competed for the Saints from 2011-2014.

Game 1: St. Lawrence 3, SUNY Cobleskill 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-13)

St. Lawrence trailed early but seized control behind Bridget Gammons, who served up back-to-back aces to make it 5-1 before Araiza Acum-Santos took over on the attack. The Saints pushed the lead to 20-12 closed the set on a string of Cobleskill errors.

St. Lawrence never trailed in the second, opening on a Gammons kill and steadily pulling away as Acum-Santos and Gammons combined for point after point at the net. The Saints turned a tight 4-3 lead into a rout, ripping off a long run capped by Cassady Smith's back-to-back service aces to close the set 25-12.

Cobleskill briefly tied it at 4-4 in the third and grabbed a 6-4 lead, but the Saints answered with a run built on Audrey Bibbins and Sofie Giannelli kills. Giannelli also added an ace, then closed the door late with Heenan serving two straight aces and Gammons finishing with a kill and an ace of her own to seal the 25-13 set and the sweep.

Game 2: SUNY Brockport 3, St. Lawrence 0 (20-25, 21-25, 23-25)

Brockport used a mid-set surge to take control. St. Lawrence chipped away late, with Vanessa Latam and Araiza Acum-Santos serving consecutive aces to trim a 23-17 gap to 24-20, but Brockport closed it out on a Kaylee Dickerson-Holly kill to win 25-20.

Brockport jumped ahead early on a Jewett ace and never trailed, building an 11-4 cushion behind multiple kills from Grace Ippoliti. St. Lawrence clawed back with offense from Gammons and Giannelli, pulling within 16-14, but Brockport answered with a run punctuated by Ana Parella's ace to close out a 25-21 win.

St. Lawrence opened strong on a Gammons kill, but Brockport earned the next eight points forcing a timeout down seven. The Saints fought back throughout, tying it at 18-18 and 19-19 on kills from Acum-Santos and Latam, but Parella's serving and hitting pushed Brockport in front again, and though St. Lawrence tied it once more at 23-23 on a Pollard kill, Maddy Howell's kill off a Jewett assist sealed the 25-23 set and the sweep.

The Saints will now travel away from home for a long period, as they head to Clarkson on Sunday to face Middlebury at 11 a.m., before heading to two tournaments, beginning with the Brockport Invitational next weekend.
