The St. Lawrence men's cross country team opened its season at the Cardinal Classic, a five-kilometer race hosted by Plattsburgh State in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
First-year addition Nico Conathan-Leach had the fastest finish of Saturday morning for the Saints, placing second overall in 15:46.2.
While Clarkson had the event's individual champion, scoring depth in the back half of the top 10 handed St. Lawrence the team championship. Henry Hagen finished third in 16:11.2, followed by Aidan Fay in fourth at 16:18.8 and Oren Winters in fifth at 16:19.6. Cyrus Goetze rounded out the top six, crossing in 16:20.2.
Luke Pelton placed eighth in 16:24.1, and Tylan Haag finished ninth in 16:26.3.
The Saints will look to build on their season-opening performance as they continue their schedule at home with the Hoffmann Invitational on Saturday, September 19.
