Maddy Shaw scored 6:01 into overtime to lift the St. Lawrence University field hockey team to a 2-1 over Utica University to complete the weekend sweep of the Oneonta Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Oneonta, N.Y.
With the win, the Saints moved to 3-0 on the season, while Utica fell to 0-3.
Utica struck first, as Gabby Chase scored with just 14.9 seconds remaining in the second quarter for the 1-0 advantage.
The Saints knotted things up 1-1, as Lehr was granted a penalty shot with 3:44 to play in the fourth frame. Lehr struck high beating Utica goalkeeper Sophia Weiss to send the game to overtime.
Shaw struck the lower left corner with a shot from the top of the arc for the 2-1 final. The goal was reviewed but stood, as the Saints picked up their third straight win to start the season.
"I'm really proud of the way we battled today," said head coach
Fran Grembowicz. "We kept our composure under pressure and were able to outshoot and put a lot of pressure offensively both early and late in the game. Utica's goalie did a great job stopping our shots. We played an excellent and smart 7v7 in overtime and it was really nice to get the hard-fought win and to see we can comeback in a game and win in overtime."
Stella Gizzi made five saves for SLU, while Weiss made 13 for the Pioneers.
St. Lawrence outshot Utica 32-8 and finished with an 18-4 advantage in penalty corners. Utica also recorded five defensive saves.
The Saints are back on the road next weekend, as they face Ohio Wesleyan and Gettysburg at the William Smith Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
