Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Murphy Makes Seven Saves for the Saints in 2-0 Loss at Hamilton

Junior Reagan Murphy made seven saves in net, but Hamilton scored twice in the second half, as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on Tuesday afternoon at Love Field in Clinton, N.Y.

The Saints fell to 3-2-4 overall, while Hamilton improved to 6-1-1.

Both teams generated chances in a scoreless first half. St. Lawrence put two shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes, including efforts from Sydney Keenan and Chloe Bourque, but Olivia Connolly made the saves to keep the match scoreless.

At the other end, Murphy was strong in goal for the Scarlet and Brown. The sophomore goalkeeper made three first-half saves, including stops on attempts by Lila Sullivan and Aly Fernandes, as the teams headed into halftime tied 0-0.

Hamilton broke through in the 52nd minute. Following a yellow card in the Saints' box, Diana Baffor converted a penalty kick to give the Continentals a 1-0 lead.

The Saints looked for an equalizer throughout the second half, with Zoe Rogan generating several of the team's best opportunities. Rogan tested Connolly twice in the final 10 minutes, but the Hamilton goalkeeper came up with both saves to preserve the advantage.

Hamilton added an insurance goal in the 77th minute when Keira Nyarady scored off an assist from Kate Giglio to extend the lead to 2-0.

Another penalty kick from the Continentals in the 85th minute sailed over the hands of Murphy and over the net to keep it at 2-0.

Murphy continued to keep the Saints within striking distance and finished the afternoon with seven saves. Connolly recorded the shutout with five saves for Hamilton.

Hamilton held a 17-12 edge in shots and a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Continentals also finished with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

St. Lawrence will look to bounce back this weekend as the team hosts Bard on Saturday, October 3 in a noon matchup. The match will be a part of Laurentian Weekend celebrations around the St. Lawrence University campus.
