Sean Miles had a rushing touchdown, but the St. Lawrence University football team dropped a 31-7 decision to Alfred on Saturday at Yunevich Stadium.
St. Lawrence completes their non-conference schedule with a 1-2 record entering league play.
Alfred scored on its first possession after taking the ball back. Matt Parker hit Cameron Lew for a 63-yard touchdown to cap an 80-yard drive at 7:52 of the first quarter. Alfred later made it 14-0 at 4:56.
With the score now at 17-0 following a Saxons field goal, the Saints answered with a 10-play, 47-yard drive, but it ended on downs at the Alfred 28. Parker then expanded Alfred's lead at 3:18. Alfred went into the half up 31-0.
The Saints' defense turned it on in the second half, however, blanking the Saxons after the break.
Sean Miles put St. Lawrence on the board with a one-yard touchdown run at 14:43 of the fourth quarter, and Morris added the extra point.
Oliver Cheer completed nine of 20 passes for 137 yards, and Miles was five of nine for 87 yards through the air.
Cole Phelan caught three passes for 41 yards, and
Caeden Perreault had two for 56 yards and 11 carries.
Rory McGuire punted five times for an average of just over 42 yards, with a long of 53 yards and two downed inside the 20. It's the second consecutive game with a punt for more than 50 for McGuire.
Luke Robillard led the defense with eight tackles.
Sam D'Amico and
Hudson Trezza each had seven, with Trezza adding a pass breakup.
Jack Johnson had a 13-yard sack and Will Longfield added a three-yard sack.
The Saints' first action of the Liberty League schedule is at Ithaca College on Saturday, September 26.
