Hannah and
Lily Gubbins combined for three goals to lead the St. Lawrence University field hockey team to a 6-1 season-opening win over Morrisville on Tuesday afternoon.
Just eight minutes into the game,
Lily Gubbins received a pass from about 35 yards out, beat out two defenders and scored the Saints first goal of the season for the 1-0 lead.
The Saints had a strong showing in the second quarter, shutting out Morrisville 4-0 in the frame to build a 5-0 lead by halftime.

Garen Steiner assisted
Hannah Gubbins to make it 2-0, just after the 20 minute mark. Just over three minutes later, Steiner made it 3-0, as the Saints continued to pull away with an early lead.
Sawyer Bailey pushed it to 4-0, while sophomore
Jane Bartlett made it 5-0 with her first career goal for the Saints.
Ali Card connected with
Hannah Gubbins marking the last goal for the Saints in the third quarter, as SLU pulled ahead 6-0.
Gabbie Purchiaroni scored the lone goal for the Mustangs on a penalty stroke late in the fourth quarter for the 6-1 final.
"It was a great way to start the season," said head coach
Fran Grembowicz "It was a total team effort which was great. I thought our offensive started to click with good passing, all the way from the back and through the midfield and defensively we did a great job locking down on defense and keeping the ball in our possession. Again, it was a great way to open the season, we're looking forward to the weekend and to see what else we can bring."
All three goalkeepers saw time in the cage for the Saints,
Stella Gizzi logged 30 minutes, while
Stella Zimmer and
Petra Gamage tallied one save each. Jillian Buczkowski made nine saves for the Mustangs, while Emmaly Noeller made four.
The Saints outshot Morrisville 26-8 and finished with a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
St. Lawrence opens the season at 1-0, while Morrisville fell to 0-1.
SLU will take on St. John Fisher and Utica at the Oneonta Tournament this weekend, game times are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
