Season Recap: Tarbell Named Rookie of the Year, Three Saints Garner All-League Honors

First-year Tallis Tarbell was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year, as the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team posted a 9-7 record, including a 6-4 record in conference action and advanced to the first round of the Liberty League Tournament in 2026.

Three members of the Saints' squad earned All-Liberty League accolades, as Caroline Hamilton and Phoebe Spaeth both earned Second-Team honors, and Tarbell earned a spot on the Third Team.

Tarbell, who was named Rookie of the Week three times this season, led the Saints with 44 goals and 10 assists for 54 points. She tallied four game-winning goals, picked up 16 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers, playing in just 12 games for the Scarlet and Brown. She ranked second in the Liberty League with 3.14 goals per game and seventh with 3.86 points per game.

Hamilton recorded 11 goals and nine assists for 19 points in her senior campaign. An anchor in the midfield, she also tallied 21 ground balls, caused 15 turnovers and won 25 draw controls.

Spaeth finished the season with 16 goals and three assists, tying Hamilton with 19 points. She scored two game winning goals, picked up 23 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and won three draws.

St. Lawrence continued to play a high strength of schedule in 2026, facing No. 19 Babson and No. 1 Middlebury in non-conference play and No. 8 William Smith on their conference slate.

Despite a tight loss to nationally ranked Babson while in West Palm Beach, Fla., the Saints rebounded with back-to-back wins over SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Potsdam.

St. Lawrence posted Liberty League wins over RPI, Skidmore, RIT, Clarkson, Vassar and Bard, including a five-game win streak to close out the regular season, spanning almost the entirety of April.

The Saints earned with fifth seed in the Liberty League Tournament and traveled to Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets in a first round game on April 28. SLU put up a strong second half, including three goals in the fourth quarter, but Rochester claimed a 8-7 win to advance to the semifinals.

"We are on the precipice of an exciting time for the program as we continue to make steps forward in our culture and play," said head coach Tom Ryan. "I was happy as both our team offense and team defense really came together over the course of the spring. To finish the regular season with five league wins speaks to that momentum."

"Trips to Florida in February to play Babson and Boston in March for a league game against RPI were memorable team building events. We showed commitment to be our best on a daily basis. I am proud of our team toughness and never quit mentality. The 6-0 fourth quarter run at Skidmore to tie the game and then win in overtime was among the best come from behind victories I have ever been a part of. I am excited about what the future holds for our program."

The Saints also excelled in the classroom, as 12 Saints earned Liberty League All-Academic honors. This season's IWLCA Academic awards have yet to be announced.

The women's lacrosse team graduated five seniors in the Class of 2026 – Gabs Cloutier, Caroline Hamilton, Ashley Mudd, Camryn Sipher, and Kelsey O'Brien.
