The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team got to four wins in a hurry as they secured a 4-0 win over William Smith in the first round of the Liberty League Tennis Championships on the campus of Cornell University on Friday evening.
St. Lawrence, who is the number three seed, improved to 14-4, while William Smith fell to 8-11.
In doubles play, the Saints got two wins in short order as
Ariane Karera and
Elisa Iuri won their match 6-0 at number two against Mae Kellersman and Bethany Walker, while at three,
Eleanor McDermed and
Yvette Karera defeated Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck 6-1.
Molly Jespersen and
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen were up 5-2 in their match at one when the clinching win came through.
In singles, the Saints picked up wins at three, four, and six.
At three, Iuri took on Grace Magna and won 6-0, 6-1, while
Yvette Karera dismantled Bethany Walker 6-1, 6-0 at number four. At six,
Ellie Fritz was playing in her first match of the day against Kaitlyn Hardy and won her match 6-3, 6-3. Aksdal-Jansen, Jespersen, and
Ariane Karera were all up in their matches before it was called after the fourth win.
St. Lawrence will be back on the court tomorrow to take on the number two seed, RPI in a 5 p.m. match.
