Saints' Bats Stay Hot; Take Two Wins From Plattsburgh in Regular Season Finale

The Saints' offense plated 24 runs on the day as St. Lawrence University baseball team defeated Plattsburgh State 14-4 and 10-3 in a non-conference twin bill at Tom Fay Field on Tuesday afternoon.

St. Lawrence improved to 18-14 overall, while the Cardinals saw their season end at 15-18.

The Scarlet and Brown stayed hot at the dish and have now scored 10 or more runs in five of their last six games, with the other game seeing nine runs cross the plate.

Game One: St. Lawrence 14, Plattsburgh 4 (7 Innings)

The Saints got going slowly in game one as Ethan Harris brought the game's first run home with a double to center field, with Riley Reimund crossing the plate.

St. Lawrence tacked on three more runs in the third as Gabe Albertson doubled the lead before a fielder's choice and an error brought John Gannon home and made it 3-0. Harris picked up his second RBI thereafter to bring the game to 4-0.

The Saints blew the game open in the fourth to inflate the lead to 11-0. Eddie Morrissey and Gannon each singled a run home before Albertson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0. A third Harris RBI-single, followed by an error, and two more RBI singles ballooned the score in favor of the Saints.

The Cardinals plated their first run in the fifth, taking advantage of three consecutive walks, but a double play ball and a putout on a fielder's choice got them out of the jam at 11-1.

After Plattsburgh made the game 11-4 in the sixth, Mike Siano had the big hit of the game, scorching a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for a three-run home run.

Shota Kubota pitched 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four for the win, while Will Nardella and Charlie Todd combined for the final 2.1 innings of work on the hill.

Game Two: St. Lawrence 10, Plattsburgh 3 (7 Innings)

In game two, the Saints scored runs in each of the first five innings to take a commanding lead.

Following a double and a sacrifice bunt from Eoin Morrissey in the bottom of the first, Willie Landman gave St. Lawrence the lead with an RBI single. The lead improved to 5-0 in the bottom of the second as a run was scored on an error while Owen McClintock was up to bat, and Nolan Widrick followed it up with a single to make it 3-0.

Two more runs came across without a swing of the bat as Widrick stole second, but the throw was booted by two separate fielders, scoring two runs.

In the third, Matt Davis and Jack Growney each singled home runs to make it a 7-0 contest and take the controlling lead.

Plattsburgh fought back with three runs in the top half of the fourth, but St. Lawrence answered as Finn Parker smoked a double to left center to score Eoin Morrissey from first. The last of the damage was dealt in the bottom of the fifth as a sacrifice fly from Widrick and an RBI double from Eoin Morrissey made it 10-3.

Liam Hickey got the start on the hill, striking out one batter in two innings, and was followed by Michael Flyzik, who got an inning of work. Will Mueller and Owen Gray combined for the next two innings before Charles Roth and Ben Zyskowski finished off the game from the mound.
