Gannon Collects Three Hits as Saints Fall to Hobart

Hobart struck early and pulled away in the middle innings as the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell, 13-3, Tuesday afternoon at Tom Fay Field.

St. Lawrence fell to 12-14 overall and 6-8 in Liberty League play, while the Statesmen improved to 24-9 and 8-3 in conference action.

The Statesmen opened the scoring in the first inning, capitalizing on a leadoff double and an error to manufacture a run. Hobart added another tally in the second and pushed across three more in the third to take a 5-0 advantage.

Hobart had its biggest inning of the afternoon in the top of the fourth. The Statesmen plated seven runs in the frame, highlighted by a three-run home run and several timely hits, stretching the lead to 12-0.

St. Lawrence got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Ethan Harris led off the inning with a single, and after advancing into scoring position, he came home on an RBI single by Nolan Widrick. John Gannon followed with a base hit of his own.

The Saints added one more run in the sixth inning. John Donnellan was hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position before scoring on a fielder's choice by Max Cloutier, making it 12-3.

Hobart tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to close out the scoring and end the game.

Widrick led the Saints offensively, finishing 2‑for‑4 with an RBI, while Gannon went 3‑for‑4 and drove in a run. Harris added three hits and scored a run.

On the mound, Brendan Young started for St. Lawrence and worked three innings. Noah Clausen, Boden Driscoll, and Will Nardella provided relief to close out the contest.

St. Lawrence will be back in action tomorrow when the team heads to Northfield, Vt. to take on Norwich at 3:30 p.m.
