Tallis Tarbell scored six goals and assisted on another for seven points, as the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team celebrated the Class of 2026 with a 13-8 win over Vassar on Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.
Following today's game, the Saints honored the five members of their graduating class –
Gabs Cloutier,
Caroline Hamilton,
Ashley Mudd,
Kelsey O'Brien, and
Camryn Sipher.
With the win, the Saints improved to 8-6 on the season and 5-4 in conference play, while Vassar fell to 5-8 and 0-8.
Tarbell also caused two turnovers, while Mudd totaled two goals and an assist and
Cate Rathnam also scored twice.
Jessica LaPlaca,
Ava O'Rourke and
Phoebe Spaeth each scored once.
Ruthie Haims won a team-high three draws and picked up two ground balls, while
Eliza D'Agostino,
Zoe Froimovitz and O'Brien each grabbed two ground balls.
The Saints started out hot, as LaPlaca struck first and SLU outscored Vassar 4-1 in the first 15 minutes of play, including back-to-back goals from Tarbell.
Vassar scored to open the second quarter, but was quickly followed up by two goals from the Saints in the next two minutes of play. Following two more goals for the Brewers and one for the Saints, SLU led 7-4 at halftime.
The Brewers rallied in the third, scoring three unanswered goals to bring the game back within one, 8-7, heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite a third-quarter push from Vassar, the Saints pushed back in the fourth, outscoring the Brewers 5-1. Tarbell tallied her 47th and 48th goals of the season, as the Saints pushed forward for the 13-8 final.
"Vassar played us tough and challenged us at both ends of the field," said head coach
Tom Ryan. "The team needed to step up in the fourth to close it out. We played for our seniors today and I am happy that they got a win on senior day. They have worked hard this year and made sacrifices, so I am glad to see their efforts rewarded with quality league wins."Â
Maddie Kaltsas led the Brewers with three goals and two assists for five points.
Froimovitz recorded eight saves between the pipes, while Maddie Busam made 11 for Vassar.
St. Lawrence outshot Vassar 37-22, including 22-14 in shots on goal, and led 16-7 on the draw. Vassar finished with a 17-15 edge in ground balls.
The Saints hit the road for their final game of the regular season, as they travel to Bard to take on the Raptors on Saturday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
