Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Take Early Lead, Hold Off Clarkson in North Country Showdown

Tallis Tarbell powered the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team with a game-high five goals, and Cate Rathnam added a hat trick of her own as the Saints defeated rival Clarkson 13-8 Wednesday night.

With the victory, the Saints mov above .500 to 7-6 on the season, while the Golden Knights fell to 9-6. St. Lawrence capitalized on its opportunities throughout the evening, including a man-up goal from Phoebe Spaeth in a decisive fourth quarter.

Tarbell led the Saints' offensive charge, finishing with five goals on 10 shots. Rathnam recorded four points on three goals and an assist, while Ava O'Rourke chipped in two goals and one helper. Jessica Laplaca and Spaeth each found the back of the net and added an assist, and Jolie Osborne rounded out the scoring with a goal. Keira Dodd grabbed a game-high seven draw controls.

The Saints were hot out of the gate, shutting out the Golden Knights in the opening frame. St. Lawrence built a 3-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, fueled by a balanced attack that saw three different players find the back of the net.

The second quarter saw both teams trade blows. St. Lawrence scored their fourth consecutive goal to make it 4-0, then Clarkson broke their scoring drought to cut the lead to 4-1. The Saints responded to that with a three-goal surge, ultimately heading to the locker room with a 7-3 advantage at halftime.

In the third, the Saints continued to maintain their cushion. Tarbell and Rathnam both scored to keep the pressure on, and despite a goal from Clarkson, St. Lawrence headed into the final period leading 10-4.

The Golden Knights attempted a late-game rally in the fourth, outscoring the Saints 4-3 in the frame. Clarkson converted twice on the man-up to tighten the score, but goals from Tarbell and O'Rourke ensured the Saints kept a safe distance to seal the 13-8 final.

Zoe Froimovitz earned the win in goal for St. Lawrence, recording seven saves. Riley Donovan finished with eight saves for the Golden Knights. St. Lawrence outshot Clarkson 29-20 and held a 14-9 advantage in draw controls.

The Saints return to action quickly, as they are scheduled to take on Vassar this Saturday, April 18, at 12 p.m. for their senior day.
