The 15th-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team fell to Ithaca 14-5 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y.
Daniel Mahoney led St. Lawrence with two goals and an assist, while
Patrick Murray added two goals and
Henry Crean scored once.
Drew Knight picked up six ground balls, while
Sam Wade and
Rogan Cardinal each caused two turnovers.
The Bombers doubled up on the Saints in the first, taking a 4-2 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.
Both teams traded goals in the second, with Ithaca scoring the first two and Mahoney and Murray scoring back-to-back for the Saints to close out the half. Ithaca led 6-4 at the break.
The Bombers shut out the Saints 5-0 in the third to build an 11-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Ithaca added three more to their eight-goal run, and Crean scored the final goal for the Saints, finishing with the 14-5 final. Â
"Ithaca had our number today in all aspects of the game," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "This is a great example of how challenging our league is, and there is no time to do anything other than respond with hard work and determination moving forward."
Brendan Occhino led Ithaca with four goals and an assist for five points.
Ithaca led in shots on goal (23-13), ground balls (39-31), and faceoffs (17-4).
SLU fell to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Ithaca improved to 6-4 and 1-1.
The Saints face a quick turnaround as they host SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m.
