The Saints fell 6-1 in their first match of the day against UMKC, but the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team bounced back to beat Huntingdon 7-0 in their second match on Wednesday evening at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 8-2 with the results.
In their first match of the day against UMKC, the Saints went down 1-0 in doubles play and were forced to come back in singles. Despite some close matches,
Ariane Karera picked up the lone win for the Scarlet and Brown as she beat Maria Byline 7-5, 6-4 at number five.
Their second match started on a much stronger note as they took two of three doubles matches to go up 1-0.
Maya Stepic and
Sarah Oldland won their match 6-1 over Anley Lanier and Athens DeVer at two, while
Alexandra Fuller and
Kate Butler secured a 6-3 victory at three against Angelina Mazza.
The Scarlet and Brown went perfect in singles play for the win.
Yvette Karera won handily over Lilly Brown at one, winning 6-1, 6-1, while Stepic went 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at two over Sanders. Oldland also picked up her second win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lanier, while
Abigail Sicuranza took down Anna Beth Adams 6-1, 6-3 at four.
The doubles team of Fuller and Butler picked up wins at five and six, respectively, as Fuller won 6-0, 6-3 against DeVer, and Sicuranza defeated Katie Madden 6-4, 6-2.
St. Lawrence will wrap up their Spring Break trip to Florida tomorrow when the team takes on Luther College at 10:30 a.m.
