After falling in doubles play, the Saints clutched up, winning all six singles matches as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated Union 6-1 in non-conference play at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
St. Lawrence improved to 7-1, while Union fell to 2-6.
The Scarlet and Brown won just one doubles match as
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Molly Jespersen defeated Kennedy Alexis and Chara Meidani 7-5 at number one, but Union won at two and three to take the doubles point.
In singles, Aksdal-Jansen and Jespersen doubled up, winning matches at one and two. Aksdal-Jansen defeated Skylar Semon 6-1, 6-1 at one, while Jespersen downed Meidani 6-0, 6-1 at two.
In the third spot,
Elisa Iuri had a tough opening set, winning 7-6 (7-4) against Claire Langille, but won the second 6-0 for the win.
The Karera sisters had little trouble in their matches at four and five, with
Yvette Karera winning 6-1, 6-1 against Sydney Alphabet, and
Ariane Karera winning 6-2, 6-2 over Alexis.
In the final match of the day,
Maya Stepic took on Jenny Park at number six and took a 6-2, 7-5 win.
St. Lawrence will be back on court tomorrow for two separate matches. At 8:30 a.m., they will take on UMKC, then will be back at 2:30 p.m. to line up against Huntingdon College. Â
