Rowan Bepler all picked up wins, but a loss in doubles, and a split in singles, led to the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team falling to Union 4-3 in a non-conference matchup at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
St. Lawrence fell to 2-6, while Union improved to 6-4.
In doubles action,
Charles Schepens and
Bennett Stout combined for the closest of the three matches, falling 7-6 at number three, but Union would take the doubles point.
At number one singles, David took on Solen Bellemare and picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win to avenge his doubles loss.
Walia occupied the third spot in singles, taking on Daniel Saxe and winning the hotly contested matchup 6-1, 1-6, 10-6.
At six, Bepler was called up into the sixth spot in the order and took on Vivaan Gupta. After falling 6-1 in the first set, he came back to win the next two 6-3, 10-8 to secure victory.
Union would win the other three singles matches, two of which went to tiebreaks, to win the tight match.
St. Lawrence will be back on court tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. for their penultimate match of Spring Break against Huntingdon College.
