Despite a late surge led by
Adam Dudzinski and
Dan Anderson, the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team ultimately fell to Ithaca College, 75-72, in a Liberty League matchup on Friday night at Ben Light Gymnasium.
The result brings St. Lawrence to 10-10 on the season, and 8-5 in the Liberty League entering the second half of their weekend back-to-back with a contest against RIT.
Dudzinski and Anderson combined for an early St. Lawrence lead, 7-6 in the game's opening minutes. Dudzinski's basket came from beyond the arc just under a minute into the contest. However, responded with a balanced attack to build a ten-point lead by the break.
St. Lawrence struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting just 29.6 percent compared to the Bombers' 45.5 percent, trailing 38-28 as they headed to the locker room.
However, from there the Saints were the better offensive team, outscoring the Bombers 44-37 in the final 20 minutes.
Dan Anderson was nearly perfect from the field in the period, finishing the night with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Dudzinski spearheaded the comeback effort with 24 total points. St. Lawrence ramped up the pressure, forcing Ithaca into 10 second-half turnovers and narrowing the gap to a single possession in the closing seconds.
Despite the late-game heroics, Ithaca's Evan Cabral and Matthew Zenker held steady to maintain a seven-point Bomber lead with 37 seconds on the clock. The Saints had a final opportunity after Dudzinski sank two clutch free throws with one second remaining to make it 74-72, but a final foul and a successful free throw by Ithaca ended the comeback hopes.
Dudzinski and Anderson both posted north of 20 points, with Dudzinski adding 24 and Anderson posting 21. Anderson went 8-12 from the field. First-years also set the tone in the stat department, where
Tommy McMahon added a team-high seven boards, and
Jlin Brown had 13 points, joining his senior teammates in double figures. Brown also tied for the team lead with Anderson for three steals.
Colton Suriano added two blocks.
St. Lawrence will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon as they continue their road trip at RIT at 4 p.m.
