Despite a hard-fought battle in the middle of the lineup, the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to RIT on Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.
Charles Schepens provided the highlight of the day for the Scarlet and Brown at the No. 4 position. In a marathon match that saw momentum swing several times, Schepens rallied to defeat Alexander Sinclair in a dramatic third-set pro-set, finishing with a 5-7, 7-6 (11-9), 10-6 victory to put the Saints on the board.
The Saints nearly added another point at No. 5, where
Ryan Tingley forced a deciding set after a strong 6-1 second-set performance, but ultimately fell just short in the tiebreaker.
At the top of the ladder,
Jake David,
Josh David, and
Armaan Walia faced a clinical RIT attack, falling in straight sets.
Bennett Stout also forced a third set at No. 6 after taking the opening frame 6-4, but he couldn't hold off a late push from Anjann Boorels.
The visiting Tigers claimed the opening doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
With the loss, the Saints move to 2-3 on the season ahead of their next conference showdown against Rensselaer.
