The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team left little room for doubt on Sunday morning, surrendering only a single point across nine matches to secure an 8-1 victory over SUNY Oneonta at the Newell Field House.
The Saints' dominance was headlined by a clinical doubles performance where the team dropped only two games across all three flights combined.
At the No. 3 spot in doubles,
Aidan Baracao and
Sonny Mo didn't concede a single game in a 6-0 shutout, while the No. 1 pairing of
Jake David and
Josh David and the No. 2 duo of Sebastian Boada and
Rowan Bepler both cruised to identical 6-1 victories.
Moving into singles with a 3-0 lead,
Jackson Murray turned in the most dominant singles performance of the day at the No. 6 flight, yielding just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Nate Inzerillo.
Rowan Bepler followed suit at No. 5 in a 6-2, 6-1 win. At the top of the ladder,
Josh David took care of business with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1, while
MJ Chaho secured the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-2.
The most contested matches of the day occurred in the middle of the lineup. William de Chabert-Ostland recovered from a second-set stumble to win his No. 4 match 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. Oneonta's lone bright spot came at No. 2 singles, where William Schmid managed to outlast
Preston Mcarthy in a three-set comeback, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
With the win, the Saints move to 1-1 on the season. The team returns to action next weekend for a two-match road trip, starting with Daemen University on Saturday, February 21, followed by a Sunday tilt at the University of Rochester.
