Josh David Takes Two Wins in Men's Tennis's 4-3 Loss to Saint Michael's

First-year Josh David led the way with two wins on the day for the Saints, but in a close match that came down to the final match, the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Saint Michael's College on Friday at the Newell Field House.

St. Lawrence fell to 0-1 with the result, while the Purple Knights improved to 5-3.

In doubles, the Scarlet and Brown took the win in the number one spot. Josh David teamed up with his older brother, Jake David, and took on Garrett Brooker and Viktor Boban, winning 6-3. Saint Michael's took wins at two and three, however, to take the 1-0 lead.

At number one singles, Josh David picked up his second win of the day as he took on Julius van der Broek. After falling 6-4 in the first set, David bounced back with 6-0 and 6-2 wins to take the match.

At two, Armaan Walia took on Boban, and after winning the first set 7-5, he won the second 7-6 (7-4) to take the win. The Saints picked up their third win of the day at six, where Bennett Stout and Ferm Koppelmans went to three sets. Koppelmans took the early lead with a 6-2 win, but 6-1 and 6-2 wins secured the win for Stout.

Saint Michael's picked up wins at four and five to set up a winner-take-all match at number three. In the third spot, Jake David lined up against Brooker and fell 6-3, 6-3, as the Purple Knights took the 4-3 win.

The Scarlet and Brown will be back at the Newell Field House on Sunday, February 15, when they host SUNY Oneonta in a 10 a.m. match.
