Gammons Leads Offense with 15 Kills; Saints Post Fourth Straight Win

Bridget Gammons had 15 kills in another straight-set win, as the St. Lawrence University volleyball team improved to 2-1 in conference with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-15) win over Bard.

The Saints have now won four straight, and seven of their last eight games. It improves their record to 10-7 overall.

"There's a lot of positives to find from tonight's match and there were contributions from all directions," said Saints head coach Shelly Roiger. "I thought we had a lot of people play with focused confidence. Minimal hitting errors and an excellent night with our block were key factors in the win."

SLU held onto one point leads early on, then with the score at 4-3 they rattled off five straight points including kills from Bridget Gammons and McKayla Pollard. They also added a Cara Vitarisi service ace in that span to open a lead. After one Bard kill, the Scarlet and Brown engaged in another run, this one with nine straight points, giving them 14 of 15 points to open up a 17-4 lead. They kept the Raptors to single digits in the set.

The Saints continued their momentum from the opening set by posting the first three points of the second, going up 3-0. Bard came back to tie it 4-4 before St. Lawrence used a 6-0 to take a 10-4 lead. Aside from a 5-0 Bard run, the Saints held them to a five-point difference for the remainder of the second.

In the third, the Saints and Raptors stayed tight until the second half, when the Saints scored 11 of 16 points down the stretch – with Kaitlyn Putman registering two kills over that span to lead the team – leading the Saints to their straight-set win.

Gammons' 15 kills led the way for the Saints, with Annika Flittie adding six against her former squad as well. Cassady Smith had 13 digs on the defensive side of the ball.

The Saints continue their trip through the Hudson Valley when they face Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday.
