Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lawrence, Saints Shutout Dartmouth 2-0 in ECAC Opener

Riley Reeves and Brooke Mulvihill both scored their second goals of the season, and Kassidy Lawrence made 31 in a shutout effort to lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-0 win over Dartmouth in the ECAC Hockey opener on Friday in Hanover, N.H.

St. Lawrence improved to 3-8-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play, picking up their first three league points, while Dartmouth fell to 2-2-0 and 0-1-0.

Reeves struck first for the Saints for the 1-0 lead. Sonia Mehta took the original shot from the left circle and Michaela Hesová made the leg save, but the rebound found the stick of Reeves in the slot, who cashed in for the first goal.

Saints' goaltender Kassidy Lawrence was stellar in net in the first, recording back-to-back saves with 6:30 to play to keep the Big Green off the board.
SLU led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes, while Dartmouth led 11-8 in shots on goal.

Lawrence continued her strong play through the second, keeping Dartmouth at bay. Hesová was equally up to the task, as neither team found the back of the net in the second frame.

The Big Green led 20-17 in shots on goal after two, but SLU continued to hold a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Mulvihill added an insurance goal for the Saints, who converted on the power play for goal number two. Cheyenne Degeer sent a backhanded pass through the Dartmouth defense, and Mulvihill hit the one timer for the 2-0 advantage.

"Dartmouth came out strong in the first period and we were fortunate to be up 1-0 on a nice goal by Riley," said head coach Chris Wells. "Second period was back and forth and we started to find our game a bit more. The third was our best and we found a way to finish the game with the lead this time around with some strong efforts, execution, and key saves by Kass."

"Dartmouth did a great job with the atmosphere for our athletes to play in front of. The last of our three kids day game was the charm!"

Lawrence made 31 saves in the win, while Hesová finished with 26 for Dartmouth.

Dartmouth led 52-48 in shots and 31-28 in shots on goal. SLU finished 1-for-2 on the power play, while Dartmouth went 0-for-3.

The Saints continue their first conference weekend of the year, as they take on Harvard tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
