Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Saints Fall to No. 15 Cortland in Season Finale

First-year goalkeeper Stella Gizzi recorded 10 saves, but the St. Lawrence University field hockey team fell to No. 15 Cortland 3-0 to close out the 2026 season on Wednesday afternoon at North Country Field.

The first two quarters were scoreless in Canton, as both goalkeepers and defensive units kept the game knotted at 0-0 till halftime.

Cortland's Anna McCarthy tallied all three goals for the Red Dragons, sealing the win with a hat trick.

Forty-six seconds into the third quarter, Tori Peterson tipped a pass and McCarthy poked the ball passed Gizzi for the 1-0 lead. McCarthy tacked on two more goals in the fourth quarter for the 3-0 final. Assists were credited to Sadie Hoffman and Lillian Morse.

"I'm very proud of the way we played today against the No. 15 team in the country," said head coach Fran Grembowicz. "We held them scoreless in the first half and put a lot of pressure on them offensively and our defense was solid from our midfield through our defensive unit."

"Thank you to our four seniors, Ali, Lily, Maddy and Sofia, it has been a great four years with them. They're provided great leadership, and friendship, they've been great teammates and role models. They bring energy and positivity every single day on the field, in the locker room and off the field. We're going to really miss their contributions while on campus, but know that they have made an amazing impact on our program for years to come."

Gizzi made 10 saves for the Scarlet and Brown, while Sofia Cannistraci finished with seven.

The Red Dragons led in shots (22-13), shots on goal (13-7), and penalty corners (11-6).

St. Lawrence closed the season at 5-10, while Cortland improved to 12-3.
