Union's Strong Start Leads to Victory on Laurentian Weekend

The St. Lawrence University football team fell to Union 49-7 in the Steve Munn '64 game Friday night at Weeks Field at Leckonby Stadium.

The Garnet Chargers struck on the first snap of their first possession. Union took over at its own five-yard line after a St. Lawrence punt, and Luke Sheehan found Brady Markowski for a 95-yard touchdown pass 49 seconds into the drive at 10:51 of the first quarter. Union led 7-0 after one.

Sheehan connected with Kaden Gore on a 23-yard scoring pass at 13:19 of the second quarter and ran for a six-yard score at 8:47. Owen Sanderson added a 28-yard field goal with 1:50 left in the half, and Sheehan hit Owen Corrigan from 33 yards out with 47 seconds remaining to make it 29-0 at the break.

St. Lawrence answered after halftime. Sean Miles led an eight-play, 50-yard drive and sent a high, looping throw to Cole Phelan on the right side. The wide receiver shrugged off Alex Carucci's tackle for a 35-yard touchdown at 8:36 of the third quarter. Aidan Morris kicked the extra point to make it 29-7. Phelan finished with a team-high five catches for 72 yards.

Union responded by scoring on the ensuing drive via Justin Singh's one-yard run at 5:19. Jah'Cire Jones added a major, and Kaden Faniel closed the scoring with a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown with 25 seconds left.

Connor Finnerty recorded an interception for the Saints in the fourth quarter, returning it 11 yards. Luke Robillard led the St. Lawrence defense with 10 tackles. Jack Finnegan and Twombly each had six tackles. Miles totaled 148 yards of offense, throwing for 95 yards and rushing for 53 on 16 carries. Daejier Brooks added 37 rushing yards on seven carries.



St. Lawrence held the ball for 33:58 to Union's 26:02. Union had 429 total yards to 217 for St. Lawrence. Sheehan finished 14 of 20 for 231 yards and three touchdowns while adding 62 rushing yards. The Saints ran into penalty trouble in the contest – flagged 11 times. 2,537 people took in the game on Laurentian Weekend.

St. Lawrence will look their second road victory of 2026 on Saturday, October 10, as they travel to Orchard Park, N.Y. to take on Hilbert College in a road contest at Orchard Park High School. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
