Eight different members of the St. Lawrence University football team had touchdowns, and
Caeden Perreault led the ground game with 179 yards on 15 carries, as the Saints put on an offensive clinic in Orchard Park, N.Y., They recorded a three-touchdown third quarter en route to a 56-0 conference win over the Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon.
The highest offensive output of the season for the Scarlet and Brown truly came by committee –
Sean Miles,
Caeden Perreault,
Cole Phelan,
Jack Finnegan,
Daejier Brooks, Ben Chapman,
Jack Foster, and Lucca Labella all posted touchdowns in the Saints' rout of Hilbert. That earned them their first conference victory of 2026.
After the Saints prevented a Hawks first down on the game's opening drive, they marched down field from their own 29-yard line to open the scoring. Starting quarterback Miles engineered four first downs on the drive and punched it in from short yardage on 2
nd and 3. He used a gap in the line and charged up the middle to score and make it 6-0. The point-after was good by
Aidan Morris, and the Saints held a 7-0 lead that stood until the end of the opening frame.
St. Lawrence defense was all over Hilbert's offense on the ensuing possession, keeping them hemmed their side of the field and starting their own drive on the Hilbert 48 after forcing a punt. The Saints missed a field goal, however, on the first play of the second quarter and the score remained 7-0.
The Saints scored again prior to the end of the second quarter, after Perreault hauled the rock on two separate big runs. His 27-yard carry brought the Saints to the Hilbert 30-yard line, then another 19-yard run gave the Saints 1
st and goal. He lugged it past the goal line for a major, and a 13-0 lead. That became 14-0 following the convert.
They then extended their lead immediately. After Hilbert got the ball back following the Saints touchdown,
Antonio Ricca tracked down an errant pass from Hilbert quarterback Noah Workman, plucked it for an interception and gave the Saints the ball back. Following back-to-back first downs to get in good field position, Miles connected with
Cole Phelan for the passing touchdown and made it 21-0 at 14:49 of the second.
On the following kickoff after halftime,
Jack Finnegan returned it 75 yards to the house for another St. Lawrence touchdown, expanding their lead to 28-0 following the point-after on the third quarter's opening play.
That third quarter opener set the Saints off on the right foot, and they added some firsts in the game's back half.
Daejier Brooks added his first career touchdown on a six-yard run to expand the SLU lead to 35, then quarterbacks
Oliver Cheer and
Mark Rodeo each got in on the action with respective touchdown passes to
Benjamin Chapman and
Jack Foster – each of their first collegiate touchdowns. After that, the score was 49-0.
Lucca Labella ran 30 and 13 yards on the Saints' next drive and scored from two yards out with 6:55 left, posting his first career touchdown in the process.
Rory McGuire kicked the extra point for the final margin. Hilbert reached the SLU 16 in the final minute but turned the ball over on downs with 43 seconds left.
Labella added 60 yards on six carries,
James Gescheidle ran for 53 yards on nine attempts and Brooks had 43 yards on seven carries. Miles completed five of eight passes for 61 yards and rushed for 14 yards. St. Lawrence finished with 454 yards and 27 first downs and scored touchdowns on six of seven red zone trips. Morris and McGuire combined to go eight for eight on extra points.
The SLU defense held Hilbert to 66 rushing yards.
Drew Lazcano had six tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble, and Ricca had seven tackles and an interception.
Savino Morelli and
Connor Finnerty each had five tackles, and Finnerty also forced a fumble. St. Lawrence sacked Hilbert quarterbacks three times.
The win improves the Saints' overall record to 2-4, and their conference record to 1-2 entering their bye. Following a week away from league play, the Saints will host Hobart on Saturday, October 24 in their first afternoon home contest of the season. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at Weeks Field at Leckonby Stadium.
