A career-high 35-point performance from senior forward
Adam Dudzinski fueled a dramatic comeback win, as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team erased a 24-point deficit, overcame a buzzer beater at the end of regulation, and defeated Bard in overtime 81-80 in a dramatic Liberty League contest Friday night.
The opening quarter belonged to Bard, as the Raptors established control early and built momentum on both ends of the floor. St. Lawrence struggled to find offensive rhythm against Bard's pressure, falling behind as the Raptors extended their lead through consistent scoring and defensive stops.
Bard continued to dictate the pace in the second quarter, pushing its advantage to as many as 24 points. Despite the growing deficit, the Saints remained competitive and began to show signs of life late in the half, with Dudzinski starting to assert himself offensively as St. Lawrence looked to generate momentum heading into the break.
St. Lawrence emerged from halftime with renewed energy, steadily chipping away at the deficit behind improved defensive pressure and more efficient offensive possessions. Dudzinski led the charge, scoring consistently as the Saints began to close the gap and swing momentum in their favor.
The Saints completed their comeback in the final quarter, continuing to string together stops and timely baskets. St. Lawrence erased the deficit entirely and tied the game with three seconds remaining, appearing poised to complete the rally. Bard responded immediately, however, hitting a buzzer-beating shot to force overtime.
Undeterred by the late equalizer, St. Lawrence regrouped in overtime and seized control of the extra period. The Saints executed on both ends of the floor, outscoring Bard in the final five minutes to secure the hard-earned conference victory.
Tommy McMahon drilled the game-winning foul shot late and ended the game 81-80.
Dudzinski's 35 points marked a career high, surpassing his previous best by eight, and anchored the Saints throughout the comeback and overtime. The Saints now prep to face Vassar Saturday afternoon in the final game of their trip to the Hudson Valley.
