Vassar used momentum from a strong first-half performance and held on for a 26-point win against the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team Saturday afternoon.
The 70-44 Vassar win brings the Saints' record to 3-4 in conference, and 5-8 overall as they return home on the weekend.
Adam Dudzinski opened the scoring for the Saints with a jumper just 18 seconds into the game, but Vassar answered quickly. Will Gregory connected on a three-pointer at the 17:14 mark, and Sacha Greenberg followed with another triple less than a minute later to give the Brewers an early advantage.
St. Lawrence responded midway through the half. Back-to-back three-pointers from
Tommy McMahon and
Colton Suriano tied the game at 10-10 with 10:52 remaining. Vassar regained the lead shortly after on a three by Nathan Denham, and
Connor Parkes kept the Saints within striking distance with a pair of free throws to make it 13-12.
Vassar began to create separation late in the opening half. Parker Neuenhaus knocked down a three-pointer with 6:25 remaining, and the Brewers carried that momentum into the break, taking a 27-16 lead into halftime.
The Brewers controlled the second half. While the Saints were able to score in transition at times, Vassar's depth proved decisive as the Brewers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the half.
The Saints return to action Friday when they host Skidmore at Burkman Gymnasium.
