Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Nordström Stops 34; No. 11 Clarkson Claims 5-0 Win Over St. Lawrence

Emma-Sofie Nordström recorded 34 saves, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team took on No. 11 Clarkson in game four of the Route 11 rivalry series, where the Golden Knights defeated the Saints 5-0 on Tuesday night at Appleton Arena.

Lilien Benakova and Rylan Haslam led the Saints with five shots apiece.

Making her very first save of the game in highlight reel fashion, Nordström stopped a 2-on-1 break from the Golden Knights. But just about three minutes later, Clarkson took the early 1-0 lead on a goal from Madison Chantler.

Haslam looked to knot things up with a breakaway, going 1-on-1 with Aneta Senkova, but skated in just a touch too far.

The rest of the first remained scoreless and the Golden Knights led 12-10 in shots on goal.

The early goals continued to start the second, as Rhea Hicks doubled up Clarkson's lead to 2-0 after a scramble in front of Saints' goaltender Nordström at the 1:33 mark.

A turnover in the Saints zone put the puck on the stick of Sara Manness, who beat the blocker of Nordström to make it 3-0 at 6:23 of the second.

After 40 minutes, Clarkson led 27-20 in shots on goal.

The Golden Knights scored two goals on the power play to finish off with the 5-0 final.

"We came out with some good chances and energy in the first, but came up empty on the scoreboard," said head coach Chris Wells. "A quick start by Clarkson in the second put us on our heals for the rest of the game. We showed spurts throughout the night, but we weren't able to put enough shifts together in a row to get the momentum back on our side."

Nordström recorded 34 saves for the Scarlet and Brown, while Senkova finished with 24.

Clarkson finished with a 39-24 advantage in shots on goal.

The Saints fell to 9-15-2 on the season and 6-8-0 in ECAC play, while Clarkson improved to 16-7-3 and 9-3-2.

St. Lawrence will hit the road this weekend, as they take on Harvard on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Dartmouth on Saturday at 3 p.m.
