Saints Hold Off Hobart Charge, Stay Undefeated at Home

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team took an early lead against Hobart and held on in a crucial Liberty League win Saturday afternoon, taking a 60-57 victory in Burkman Gymnasium.

With the win, the Saints move to 7-8 on the season and stay above .500 in conference play with a 5-3 Liberty League record. St. Lawrence has won seven straight games at Burkman dating back to 2024-25, and have a 5-0 home record in 2025-26.

"We really battled tonight, and it took every player to pull out the win," said Saints head coach Chris Downs. "Hobart is a top team in the league, and they came at us hard late in the game. Credit to the players for showing composure and locking down the victory. We now prepare for next week."

Dan Anderson opened the scoring with a layup in the paint to set the tone early. Charlie VonOehsen also contributed to the early momentum, sinking a crucial three-pointer. Midway through the first half, the Saints held a 21-16 advantage behind layups and jumpers from Aidan Phelan and Colton Suriano.

Dudzinski fought through a tough two-on-one defensive look to convert a layup, while Anderson added an unassisted bucket after weaving through the Hobart defense. The Scarlet and Brown maintained their composure to take a steady 34-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half began with a scoring drought as neither team could find the basket for the first two minutes. Hobart finally broke the silence with a free throw, but the Saints responded defensively. Tommy McMahon ignited the transition game with a steal that helped Dudzinski continue his march toward a double-double via a layup.

While foul trouble for the Statesmen initially gave the Saints an advantage, the home team faced a late-game surge. Hobart managed to tie the game at 56 with just 47 seconds remaining. Dudzinski stepped up in the clutch, scoring with 22 seconds left to reclaim the lead. He was fouled again with less than 10 seconds on the clock.

The victory was finally sealed when Dan Anderson was fouled with less than a second remaining. Anderson sunk a free throw to secure the 60-57 win and complete the weekend sweep.

Adam Dudzinski posted a double-double, recording team highs in both points with 13 and rebounds with 10. Two other Saints, Dan Anderson and Jlin Brown, also hit double figures in points. Brown was active on the glass with five rebounds. Colton Suriano posted seven points off the bench and a team-high three steals off the bench.

St. Lawrence remains undefeated at home and will look to protect that streak next weekend at Burkman Gymnasium. The Saints are scheduled to host the RIT Tigers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Ithaca Bombers on Saturday at 4 p.m.
