Mayson Blondek scored two goals, and
Petra Gamage made seven saves to combine with
Elizabeth Walsh for a team shutout as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team earned their second consecutive 5-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Moravian.
The Saints now possess a 3-0 record, still not conceding a single goal in 2025. They've outscored their opponents 13-0 thus far, as they prepare for a tournament hosted by William Smith starting on Saturday.
"This was an amazing team effort today," said Saints head coach
Fran Grembowicz. "We displayed great chemistry at both ends of the field throughout the game. Walsh and Gamage were outstanding in net, and our play in both circles was very well executed. We'll need to continue this strong play next weekend."
St. Lawrence wasted no time getting on the board, scoring at 7:39 of the opening frame on
Sawyer Bailey's first collegiate goal, as the first-year took a pass from senior Maya Helmer and deposited it for a 1-0 St. Lawrence advantage.
The Saints stretched their lead out to 2-0 on Blondek's first market of the afternoon, coming at 19:21. Then, right as the second quarter was ending, St. Lawrence put the game out of reach with two goals in quick succession.
Sydney LeClair scored at 29:23, then
Caroline Hamilton added a tally just 30 seconds later to put the Saints up 4-0 at the break.
Blondek's second goal came just 1:24 into the third, making it 5-0. Gamage made several key saves to preserve the shutout in the fourth quarter, and 5-0 stood as the final score.
Despite the scoreline, the Saints had to work hard defensively to leave the game with a win, as shots were even at 19-19. Moravian had more corners than St. Lawrence, beating them 12-9 in that category.
St. Lawrence will take on Lebanon Valley and Gettysburg at the William Smith tournament, with one game on both Saturday and Sunday.
