Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Hamilton Notches Goal, Saints’ Shutout Streak Ends in 2-1 Defeat Versus Lebanon Valley

Caroline Hamilton had the opening goal of the game, but two second-half markets by Lebanon Valley handed the St. Lawrence University field hockey team their first loss of the 2025 campaign in their tournament opener at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.

The first Dutchmen goal ended a 217-minute Saints' shutout streak dating back to the opening minute of 2025 game play. St. Lawrence's record now stands at 3-1.

It was a scoreless first quarter but Elizabeth Walsh saw some action in the opening frame, turning aside three shots.

In the second, St. Lawrence got on the board. After a near goal that resulted in a penalty corner, Maggie Spire took the ball from Mayson Blondek on the edge of the shooting circle and laced a shot toward traffic in front of the net. Hamilton deflected it in to make it 1-0 at 21:10 of gameplay.

The Saints would concede their first goal in 217:53 of competition in the third quarter. Lauren Foster took a pass from Johanna Ehrhart and became the first player of the 2025 season to put a ball behind Elizabeth Walsh, knotting the game up at 1-1.

That score stood until just past the six-minute mark of the third quarter, when Jillian Tait took a hard pass in the middle of the shooting circle, turned, fired and beat Walsh point-blank to give Lebanon Valley the eventual game-winner.

Walsh was the star of the game for St. Lawrence, making 11 saves in the contest. Maddy Shaw had the Saints' team lead in shots with two.

It isn't the end of the William Smith Tournament for St. Lawrence; they face Gettysburg, an opponent from the Centennial Conference, Sunday morning with the game set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
