Men's Soccer Falls at Hobart in Liberty League Opener

The St. Lawrence University men's soccer team dropped its Liberty League opener on Saturday afternoon, falling 4–0 to Hobart College at Cozzens Field.

St. Lawrence fell to 2-5-0 with the loss, and 0-1-0 in Liberty League play, while Hobart improved to 6-0-1 and 1-0-0 in league action.

Both teams were awarded penalty kicks early but only one team cashed in on the chances. In the fourth minute, Ryan Campbell took a kick from the dot for the Saints, but was stopped by Tommy Chyzowych. Moments later, Hobart was given a penalty kick and cashed in with a Joe Pariano tally to take the lead.

Griffin Coutts tacked on two more goals in the first half to give the Statesmen a 3-0 lead going into the half.

Coutts tacked on his hat-trick goal in the 53rd minute to give Hobart the 4-0 lead. St. Lawrence had chances from Campbell and Sammy Bothwell later in the second half but couldn't find the twine.

The Saints' goalkeeper Zach Amato made five saves in the loss, while Hobart's Chyzowych earned the shutout with one save.

Hobart out-chanced the Saints 15-4 in shots, and 9-1 in shots on goal, while having a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Scarlet and Brown will look to bounce back next week when the team heads to Saratoga Springs on September 27 to take on Skidmore in a 3 p.m. match.
