First-year standouts
Josh David and
Preston Mcarthy led the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team with semifinal appearances in their respective singles brackets on Day One of the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic, held at the Sammis Tennis Courts and the Newell Field House.
In the A singles bracket,
Josh David made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, knocking off No. 4 seed Ivan Kisic of Ithaca with an 8-6 win to reach the quarterfinals. He followed that up with a thrilling 8-7 (5) victory over Hamilton's Villem Aadamsoo to punch his ticket to the semifinals, where he'll face Hobart's Jacob Linares.
Mcarthy matched his classmate's success in the D draw, opening his career with an 8-6 win over Ithaca's Ean Lantzy. He then defeated Hobart's Tyler Snyder in the quarters to earn a semifinal matchup against top-seeded Gabe Escobar of RIT.
Josh David also picked up a win in doubles action, teaming up with his brother
Jake David for an 8-6 victory over Rochester's Rajamani and Wang in the A bracket. The duo's run ended in the quarterfinals with an 8-5 loss to Hamilton's top-seeded pair, Korwar and Anderson.
In the B doubles bracket, both
