The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team kicks off its 2025-26 campaign this weekend, hosting the annual St. Lawrence Fall Classic on September 13-14 at the Sammis Tennis Courts and Newell Field House.
Leading the Scarlet and Brown into the new season is first-year head coach
Noah Murphy, who steps into the role after two seasons as an assistant. He's joined by assistant coach
Ezenna Emuka, a recent graduate and former team member who now transitions into a leadership role on the sidelines.
"We're a young team this year with a lot to prove if we want to get to where we want to go," said Murphy. "I'm excited to see how much we grow and where we can go from here."
The Saints are looking to build on last season's 8-13 record, which included a 2-6 mark in Liberty League play. With a youthful roster, the team aims to return to postseason contention after last qualifying in 2023-24.
This year's squad features 10 returners, including seniors
Aidan Baracao and
Will de Chabert-Ostland, and juniors
Jake David and
MJ Chaho. The underclassmen make up the bulk of the roster, with six sophomores in Sebastián Boada,
Sonny Mo,
Willem Naughton,
Charles Schepens,
Ryan Tingley, and
Armaan Walia, and six first-years, including
Rowan Bepler,
Josh David,
Garrett Feher,
Preston Mcarthy,
Jackson Murray, and
Bennett Stout, who will look to make an early impact.
Among the returners, Tingley and Walia lead the pack in singles wins from 2024-25 with eight apiece, while
Jake David returns the most doubles wins from a season ago with 14.
Following the Fall Classic, the Saints will travel to the Union Invitational on September 20-21, then compete in the ITA Northeast Regionals beginning October 3.
