Cook Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team has added a decorated student-athlete to its coaching staff, beginning in the 2025-26 season.

Kaleb Cook has joined head coach Chris Downs's staff as graduate assistant coach after wrapping up his playing career at Oswego State in 2023-24.

"We are really excited to welcome Kaleb to the North Country," said Downs. "He was an excellent player who competed on a nationally-ranked DIII team in Oswego State, and played for a great coach. He will make an immediate impact on us and on our team culture."

Cook competed for Oswego State from 2019-24 and was a three-year captain for the Lakers, winning the SUNYAC championship in his first two years as captain. He competed in 29 games for head coach Jason Leone, starting 10, for the Lakers in his senior year in Oswego – a year where they finished the season with an overall record of 26-3 and an undefeated conference mark of 18-0 in a competitive SUNYAC loop.

Following his successful playing career, Cook has embarked on coaching where he most recently serviced as assistant coach for Bridgewater College in Virginia. He engaged in preparation of game plans, including opponent scouting and game strategies, and also scouted and identified high-school level talent for the Eagles.

A native of Auburn, N.Y., Cook also has also been an AAU head coach for HoopRoots in Syracuse, N.Y. since 2023.
