Men's Hockey

The Skating Saints Name Flanagan Coordinator of Hockey Operations

St. Lawrence University's Charles W. Appleton II Men's Hockey Head Coach Brent Brekke has announced the addition of Brendan Flanagan to the Skating Saints coaching staff as Coordinator of Hockey Operations ahead of the program's historic centennial 2025-26 season.

"We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Brendan Flanagan as our new Coordinator of Hockey Operations for St. Lawrence Men's Hockey!" said Brekke. "Brendan is returning to his roots here in the North Country. Born and raised in Canton, he grew up with a deep connection to the Skating Saints. Much of his youth was spent in Appleton Arena, watching his father, Paul, behind the bench as a coach for SLU. Brendan has a deep understanding of what Saints Hockey is all about. Skating Saints Hockey is truly a part of who Brendan is and we're excited to welcome someone who carries such a strong sense of pride and tradition into this important role."

Flanagan, who is the son of former Skating Saints assistant coach, Paul Flanagan '80 P'13 returns to Canton after serving as a Hockey Operations Intern at Princeton University last season. Brendan will join his cousin Kyle Flanagan '13 on the coaching staff and will further add to the Flanagan Legacy that includes his father, Kyle, and his other cousin Sean Flanagan '11.

"Growing up in Canton, I developed a love for St. Lawrence, the hockey programs, and the tremendous community support that makes Appleton Arena such a special place to play and coach," said Flanagan. "My family connections to the men's and women's teams stretch over decades and I am very excited to come home to become a part of this legendary program."

Flanagan, who is a Canton, N.Y. native, graduated from Syracuse University's David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics with his Bachelor of Science in Food Studies.

Following his collegiate career, which included four years of play on the Orange's ACHA team, Brendan became a Nutrition Educator for PHMC, a non-profit in Philadelphia, Pa. Flanagan focused his exploits on hockey thereafter becoming the Lead Strength & Conditioning coach for the Syracuse Nationals AAA team and helped manage the Midstate Youth Hockey Association.

Brendan then became the Hockey Director with the Igloo Jaguars where for two years he oversaw the operations of 17 youth teams, served as the head of coaching and player development, and as the Social Media Manager.

Brendan developed a familiarity with the ECAC this past season with Princeton. Flanagan helped coordinate practices, analyze game footage, and oversaw gameday operations.
