Season Recap: Downs Records 400th Win, St. Lawrence Men's Basketball Qualify for Third Straight LL Semifinal

The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team closed the 2024-25 regular season with wins in three of their final four games to clinch a Liberty League playoff berth. The Saints advanced past Vassar College in the first round before falling to eventual league champions Ithaca in the semifinals—marking their third consecutive appearance in the Liberty League Final Four.

The Saints finished the season with a 16-10 overall record and posted a 9-9 mark in conference play. Defensively, they ranked among the nation's best, allowing just 58.7 points per game—third-best in Division III. St. Lawrence also led the Liberty League and ranked second nationally in opponent field goal percentage (36.1%), while holding teams to just 28.9% shooting from beyond the arc, tops in the conference. The Saints also boasted the league's second-best turnover margin (+2.00).

St. Lawrence went a perfect 6-0 in non-conference play, starting the season with a narrow 45-44 victory over Oswego State. The Saints also picked up wins against Plattsburgh, Geneseo, SUNY Poly, and swept the Clark Tournament with victories over Nichols College and host Clark University.

In Liberty League action, the Saints swept Bard and Skidmore, while splitting series with Vassar, Union, Ithaca, Hobart, and RIT. Their late-season surge propelled them into the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. On the road at No. 3 Vassar, the Saints earned a 58-50 win to move into the semifinals, where they ultimately fell to Ithaca.

A highlight of the season came in January when head coach Chris Downs recorded his 400th career win with a victory over Bard. Downs has led the Saints since the 1997-98 season.

Adam Dudzinski was named to the All-Liberty League Second Team, while Dan Anderson earned Third Team honors. Dudzinski was also recognized as Liberty League Performer of the Week on November 25.

Nine Saints were named to the Liberty League Winter All-Academic Team for their excellence in the classroom.
