Season Recap: Men’s Hockey’s 2024-25 Season Ends in the ECAC Opening Round

The St. Lawrence University men's hockey program finished the 2024-25 season at 9-24-2 overall and went 5-15-2 in ECAC play. The team was ultimately tasked with Dartmouth in the ECAC Hockey Championships and saw their season end in the Opening Round in Hanover, N.H.

The Saints were solid at home during the year, going 7-10 at Appleton Arena.

The season got off to a strong start with the Skating Saints winning three of their first four games, defeating RIT (3-2 OT), Canisius (5-2), and Niagara (4-3 OT).

St. Lawrence went on to split a series against Ferris State in which they earned an 8-0 win, powered by six power play goals. The eight-goal output was the most for St. Lawrence since the 2014-15 season when the Saints beat Niagara 10-2. The Scarlet and Brown's six power play goals were one short of the ECAC record and two short of the NCAA record set in the 1989-90 season.

The team then went on a skid in November despite strong play and got back in the win column in the final weekend of the Fall semester. The Saints earned a 3-2 win over No. 13/14 Dartmouth on the road and followed it up with a 0-0 tie against Harvard ahead of the Holiday break.

In January, the Scarlet and Brown picked up wins against RPI, No. 20 Clarkson, and Cornell as they pushed towards the playoffs. The rest of the way they picked up two points in a 4-4 tie against Princeton and a second win over the Big Green in overtime to set up the playoff matchup in Hanover.

Dartmouth would correct its regular season woes against the Saints to knock St. Lawrence out of the playoffs.

In his final year with the Scarlet and Brown, Greg Lapointe led the team with 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points. Junior forward Tyler Cristall came on strong in the second half of the season and posted 17 points on eight goals and nine assists.

Senior captain Mason Waite, who was named the Skating Saints' first-ever ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, led the team in assists with 12 and had 16 points in his final campaign. In the Class of 2028, Isaac Tremblay led the newcomers in points with four goals and eight assists.

Sophomore goaltender Mason Kucenski earned the net early in the season and didn't let go, earning 27 starts. The netminder went 8-19-1 with two shutouts, but posted a 2.98 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
