The Saints earned a pair of wins in doubles play and four wins in singles as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated Ithaca 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y.
St. Lawrence improved to 15-2 on the year with the win and 3-2 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers fell to 4-9 and 0-5 in league action. The Saints will look to tie the program record for wins in their next match.
In doubles,
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Elisa Iuri played at number two and won their match 6-1 over Ava Casell-Lapetina and Alys Pop. The Scarlet and Brown earned the point in doubles at three, where
Yvette Karera and
Ellie Fritz teamed up to defeat Lauren Rodriguez and Madeleine Sutro 6-2.
In singles, Aksdal-Jansen, Karera, and Iuri all doubled up with wins to help the Saints earn the win.
At one, Aksdal-Jansen took on Taylor Crain and after a close 7-6 win, took the second set 6-1 for the win. At two, Karera had a tight match with Pop, splitting the first two sets. The sophomore won the final set 7-6 for the victory. Iuri played at number three and cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sabrina Cheung.
The final win for the Saints came from
Maya Stepic, who played at number six, beating Casell-Lapetina 6-3, 6-0.
St. Lawrence will head home and begin preparing for next weekend when the Saints host Union at the Newell Field House.
