The Saints got a strong bounce-back performance to find their way back to the win column as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated RIT on Saturday at the Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester, N.Y.
The Scarlet and Brown moved to 14-2 overall with the win and 2-2 in Liberty League play with the win, while the Tigers fell to 4-6 and 1-1 in league play. The Saints reached the 14-win plateau for the first time since the 2015-16 season and are two wins away from tying the program wins record set in 2013-14 when the team went 16-4.
In doubles, the Scarlet and Brown got two wins to take the first point of the match. At number two,
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Elisa Iuri took on Maya McDaniel and Abby Murray and won 6-3.
Yvette Karera and
Ellie Fritz occupied the three spot facing Abby Finchum and Gabby Donahue, taking the 6-1 win.
In singles, Aksdal-Jansen doubled up in the win column, winning 6-1, 6-1 from the number one spot against McDaniel. Â
Iuri and Fritz also earned their second wins of the match for the Saints. Iuri took on fellow first-year Melanie Saborio at three and won the match 6-0, 6-0. Fritz meanwhile, occupied the five spot in the lineup and took the match 6-1, 6-3 over Donahue.
Eleanor McDermed made up for a doubles loss in singles play, defeating Murray 6-2, 6-2, while the final win of the day came from
Maya Stepic, who won her match at number six 6-2, 6-1 against Anika Galkiewicz.
The Scarlet and Brown will be back on court for their penultimate road match of the season at Ithaca. The Sunday match will begin at 10 a.m.
