Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls 13-11; Honors Class of 2025 on Senior Day

Jack Finnegan led the Saints with three RBI, and the Saints poured on 20 hits, but the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell 13-11 to Clarkson on Sunday afternoon at Tom Fay Field.

St. Lawrence fell to 11-22 with the loss and 6-10 in conference play.

Before the game, the St. Lawrence University baseball program honored the 14 members of the Class of 2025 in seniors, Daniel Verrastro, Sean Desjardins, Brenden O'Neil, Sam Fosberg, Brendan Karadenes, Timothy Connor, Mike DiStefano, Michael Hutchins, Christian Mingione, John Igoe, Jared Brenner, Thomas Woods, Evan Burke, and fifth year senior Brett Federico.

Clarkson found the scoreboard first in the game using a hit by pitch and a pair of singles to plate the run. They would threaten further with the bases loaded, but Hutchins worked out of the jam. John Donnellan eventually answered for the Saints in the bottom of the second when he hoisted a lazy breaking ball over the left field wall to tie the game at one.

John Gannon gave the Scarlet and Brown the lead in the third with an RBI single, but the Knights scored two in the top of the fourth to regain the lead. However, before the end of the fourth, Mike Siano singled aboard before Connor swatted a ball over the opposite field wall to make the game 4-3 for the Saints. The home run was the 13th in the storied career of Connor, tying him for third on the Saints' all-time home runs list alongside Carter Franz '13

St. Lawrence stayed hot in the fifth with an RBI double from Eoin Morrissey and an RBI single from Siano to make it 6-3, but Clarkson crawled back once again in the top of the sixth, scoring two of their own.

The game flipped on its head in the top of the eighth when the Knights plated eight runs to go up 13-6. The Saints did well to answer in the bottom half of the eighth with a walk to Willie Landman and a single from Verrastro set up Finnegan, who hit his first career home run to bring the game to within four. With the bases loaded with no outs, Siano hit a sacrifice fly to make it 13-10, but a pair of strikeouts ended the big inning.

Connor came in to pitch in the top of the ninth and dominated the Knights, bringing the Saints up for their last at-bats.

Eddie Morrissey began the ninth with a single and was brought around to third by a Finnegan double. Matt Davis brought the first-year in to score with a sacrifice fly, but St. Lawrence was unable to gain more ground as the game ended at 13-11.

Hutchins got the start for the Saints, going five innings and striking out four batters. Karadenes, Joshua Polumbo, Michael Flyzik, and Connor combined to pitch the final four innings in relief.

St. Lawrence will play their final regular season game on Tuesday when the team heads to Rochester to take on the Yellow Jackets in a makeup game from earlier in the season.
