In their final regular season match, the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated William Smith 5-2 on Saturday in Geneva, N.Y., to tie the program's wins record at 16.
With their 16-4 record, the Saints matched the 2013-14 squad, which also went 16-4 to set the program's wins record.
The Scarlet and Brown took the first point in the match, going 2-1 in doubles play. At number one,
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Elisa Iuri teamed up to defeat Natalie Haythorn and Marin Montagne 6-2. Then at two,
Yvette Karera and
Eleanor McDermed took on Haley Levine and Grace Magna, winning 6-2.
In singles, Aksdal-Jansen, Karera, and Iuri all doubled up, picking up wins at the one through three spots, respectively.
At one, Aksdal-Jansen took on Haythorn and won 6-3, 7-5, while Karera won 6-3, 6-1 in her match over Levine at number two. Iuri occupied the third spot and beat Magna 6-2, 6-3.
The Saints' fifth win came from the five spot, where
Ellie Fritz defeated Montagne 6-0, 6-2.
St. Lawrence will be back in action next Friday in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. where they will look to set a new program wins record.
