No. 36 Women's Tennis Falls 4-2 in the First Round of the LL Championships

The Saints won the doubles round but could only take one win in singles as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team fell 4-2 to Union in the first round of the Liberty League Championships on Friday morning at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.

The Scarlet and Brown saw their season end at 16-5 with the loss, while Union improved to 13-6 and will advance in the tournament.

The Saints picked up the match's first point, winning the doubles round.

At number one, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Elisa Iuri teamed up to take on Kennedy Alexis and Chara Meidani and came away with the win 6-2. In the number two spot, Yvette Karera and Eleanor McDermed took on Claire Langille and Skylar Semon and won 6-1 to secure the point. Ellie Fritz and Abigail Sicuranza had a 5-4 lead at number three before the match was abandoned, with the Saints winning the round.

In singles, Karera secured the lone win at number two, taking on Skylar Semon. The sophomore secured a 7-5, 6-4 win for the Saints. McDermed went down 7-5 in her first set against Luisa Arizpe-Sierra in the four spot and got a 7-5 win to force a third set. The first-year was well on her way to the victory, up 5-1 in the third set when the match finished
