No. 31 Women's Tennis Drops Narrow 4-3 Match Versus No. 27 RPI

In a matchup of ranked squads, the match came down to the final match, where the No. 31 St. Lawrence University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 27 RPI on Saturday in the Newell Field House.

The Scarlet and Brown fell to 15-4 with the loss and 3-4 in league play, while the Engineers improved to 9-2 and stayed perfect in Liberty League play at 5-0.

In doubles play, the Saints were able to get just one win as they went down 1-0. Yvette Karera and Eleanor McDermed accounted for the win at the number two spot, beating Gauri Muliyil and Taylor Chandler 6-4.

In singles, Maya Stepic earned the first point for St. Lawrence, beating Neha Saraswatula 6-4, 7-5 at number six. Karera doubled up in the win column, winning 6-4, 7-5 over Lorna Flores Gonzalez at two.

With the match teetering in favor of the Engineers, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen kept the Saints alive, winning at number one to even the match at 3-3. The junior won the first set 7-6 and, after a 2-6 loss, bounced back with a 6-2 win to take the match.

The match was set to be determined at number three, where Elisa Iuri and Muliyil were the last ones on the court. After dropping the first set, Iuri bounced back to win the second 7-5 to send it to a winner-take-all set. The RPI three took the 7-5 win to keep their undefeated league record intact.

St. Lawrence will wrap up their regular season next Saturday when the team heads to William Smith for a 10 a.m. match.
