Cam Croasdaile scored the game-winning goal with 3:48 to play in the fourth quarter, to lift the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Ithaca in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.
Croasdaile also added an assist for four points, while
David Herlihy,
Jamie Rosenzweig, and
Daniel Mahoney each scored twice.
Ethan Friedberg also scored for the Saints, while Rosenzweig and Mahoney recorded an assist.
Padraic Condon went 10-for-21 and picked up five ground balls, while
Charlie Miele caused four turnovers and
Sam Smith caused two and picked up two ground balls.
Rosenzweig struck first for the Saints, scoring his 14th of the season, but the Bombers responded with a pair of goals to go up 2-1. Goals from Mahoney and Rosenzweig's second of the game put SLU up 3-2 after the first 15 minutes of play.
The Saints extended their lead in the second, outscoring Ithaca 2-1 with goals from Croasdaile and Herlihy to keep their two-goal spread and a 5-3 by halftime.
Ithaca got the jump in the second, as Lucas Proctor brought the game back within one. The Bombers then put together a three-goal run to build a 6-5 lead. The Saints rebounded with goals from Herlihy and Mahoney to lead 7-6 heading into the final frame.
Both teams tallied three goals in the fourth quarter, but that one-goal edge from the third quarter allowed St. Lawrence to hold onto a 10-9 win.
"It was another tight battle that we were happy to come out on top of," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "We had some good stops defensively down the stretch and some big goals in the fourth quarter to maintain the lead. Now we have a quick turnaround to what will be a similar match-up on Wednesday."
Three Bombers scored two goals each for Ithaca, while Chris Sohl went 11-for-19 from the faceoff circle and picked up four ground balls.
Michael Marinello made eight saves for the Saints, while Andrew Minard finished with 13 for the Bombers.
St. Lawrence finished with a 23-17 advantage in shots on goal and went 19-for-19 on the clear and picked up 32 ground balls to Ithaca's 23.
With the win, the Saints improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Ithaca fell to 8-6 and 2-3, respectively.
The Saints will host Route 11 rival Clarkson on Wednesday, April 16th at 4 p.m.
