Anderson Records Hat Trick; St. Lawrence Downs Potsdam, 14-4

A strong first quarter propelled the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team past SUNY Potsdam, as 10 different players scored in the 14-4 win in Potsdam N.Y. on Tuesday evening.

The Saints rise to 5-4 overall, while the Bears drop to 5-3 on the season.

Dan Anderson led the charge with three goals each, while Cam Croasdaile, Daniel Mahoney, and Jamie Rosenzweig put in two goals apiece. Mahoney also added three helpers, while Anderson logged his first goals in Scarlet and Brown, having transferred from Denver. Caleb Torres, David Herlihy, Zack Corsi, Henry Crean all found the back of net alongside, Quin Fedor and Ethan Friedberg, who each put in their first goal of the season.

On defense, Charlie Miele led the team in caused turnovers with two, while Padraic Condon went 13-19 in faceoffs and picked up a team-high 12 ground balls.

St. Lawrence was in full control of the first quarter, as six different Saints scored goals to kick the game off. Potsdam finally ended their run as Drew Rose put one in with five minutes left. The Saints continued to roll as they added three more goals with Mahoney capping off the quarter to give the Saints a 9-1 lead.

SLU continued to stay in the driver's seat, as they outscored Potsdam 3-1 in the second. Mahoney, Rosenzweig, and Herlihy all found the back of the net in the last four minutes of the half, as they held a commanding 12-2 lead going into halftime.

Potsdam opened scoring in the second half, as Owen Wash put one in to cut into the double-digit lead. Two minutes later, Fedor found the back of the net to put the Saints back up by 10, as it was a 13-3 game going into the fourth.

In the first minute of the final quarter, Friedberg scored off an assist from Will Harris to extend the lead to 11. Potsdam scored once more with 40 seconds left to go, but the Saints held on to their lead as they finished the game with the 14-4 victory over the Bears.

"Happy we got off to a fast start," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "A good team win and we look forward to getting back into conference play on Saturday."

Michael Marinello, Heath Mann, and Ryan Powers all tallied two saves on the day, while Rafferty Callahan made three, as all four goalies got time between the pipes for the Saints. Saka Thompson made 14 saves for the Bears.

St. Lawrence held a 28-13 advantage in shots on goal, outshooting Potsdam 48-30 in total. The Saints picked up a season-best 46 ground balls to Potsdam's 38 and went 1-for-2 on man-up opportunities. 

The Scarlet and Brown will look to keep on rolling Saturday, April 5th, as they return to conference play and take on Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y at 12 p.m.
