Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Season to Vassar, 5-2

Despite taking the first point of the match in doubles play, the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team took their first loss of the season in a 5-2 match against Vassar at the Newell Field House in Canton, N.Y Saturday morning.

The Saints are now 13-1 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play, while Vassar improves to 6-4 and 2-0 in conference play.
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Elisa Iuri played in the third spot in doubles and picked up the 6-2 win to secure the first of two wins needed in the match. At 1-1 in doubles, Molly Jespersen and Eleanor McDermed played Erin McCusker and Sofie Shen for the doubles win. The Saints' duo came out victorious in a tight 7-6 (7-1) win.

Vassar turned the tide in singles play, however, as they took home five out of six matches. The one lone victor for the Saints in singles was Yvette Karera, who won her match against Shen in the fourth spot. The sophomore won the first set 6-3 yet dropped the second set 5-7, however, she pulled through in the tiebreaker to give the Saints a point. Jespersen and Iuri both had close matches yet both ultimately lost in the tiebreaking sets, as Vassar pulls away with the 5-2 win, ending the Saints' winning streak.

The Scarlet and Brown return to action tomorrow at noon as they take on Skidmore on the road in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
