The Saints got a doubles win and a pair of singles wins, but it wasn't enough as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Vassar on Saturday in the Newell Field House.
The Saints fell to 7-8 overall with the loss and 1-1 in Liberty League play, while Vassar improved to 5-6 and 3-0 in league action.
In doubles play,
Broderick Pinto and
Jake David occupied the number two spot and took home a 6-2 win for St. Lawrence's lone win.
In singles,
Edvin Strandberg played in the number one spot and after a 6-4 set win and a 1-6 loss, the match came down to the tiebreaker, which the St. Lawrence senior won 10-3 for the victory.
At four, David doubled up in the win column, defeating Joseph Braun at number four. Like his teammate, he won the first set but went to a tiebreaker after a 6-3 loss. The sophomore claimed a 6-3 set to take the win.
St. Lawrence will be back in action tomorrow when the Saints take on Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
