Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Goes Perfect in Florida; Off to Best Start in Program History

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team had a perfect weekend in Orlando, Fla. going 8-0, picking up a ranked win, and improving their record to 13-0.

The Scarlet and Brown, who have opened their season with 13 consecutive wins, have broken the program record for the most wins to start a season, previously held by the 2005-06 team, which went 10-0 before their first loss.

St. Lawrence now has its sights set on the program wins record of 16, which is held by the 2013-14 team that went 16-4.

The Saints began their Spring Break trip with a pair of 7-0 wins over St. Norbert College, and picked up another 7-0 win the next day against Crown. On the same day as the win over Crown, the Scarlet and Brown picked up a huge win defeating No. 37 Hope College 4-3. The team lost the doubles round but got singles wins from their top four in Angelica Aksdal-Jansen, Molly Jespersen, Ariane Karera, and Yvette Karera to claim the 4-3 win.

St. Lawrence then defeated a pair of Wisconsin schools beating Wisconsin-Eau Claire 5-2, and Wisconsin-La Crosse 4-3. On their final day, the team took on George Fox and Edgewood College and picked up 5-2 and 6-1 wins.

The Scarlet and Brown were led by Aksdal-Jansen and Y. Karera, who each had a team-best eight wins and 8-1 overall records respectively. A. Karera was 7-1 over the course of the week, while Sarah Oldland was perfect with a 7-0 record. Elisa Iuri, Abigail Sicuranza, Maya Stepic, and Ellie Fritz each provided six wins in the cause.

The Saints will jump right back into league play next weekend when the team hosts Vassar College at the Newell Field House on Saturday, March 29 before heading to Skidmore on Sunday to take on Skidmore.
