Five different players provided an RBI in a weather-delay-filled contest as the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell 16-5 against Bowdoin on Sunday night in Davenport, Fla. at the Russmatt Invitational.
Due to the delays, the second game of the doubleheader was cancelled.
The Saints fell to 3-4Â overall, while Bowdoin improved to 9-0.
The Bears jumped on the Saints in the contest, scoring three runs in the first six at-bats. Bowdoin scored on an RBI single and a two-RBI single to take the 3-0 lead. The game went into a lightning delay shortly after.
When the game came back, the Saints went to
Ryan McCausland on the hill, who forced a lineout and groundout to get out of the inning.
St. Lawrence got an RBI off a fielder's choice from
John Gannon, but gave the run back in the top of the second inning with a solo home run to make it 4-1.
Bowdoin took a 7-1 lead shortly after in the third before the Saints struck again in the bottom half of the third. A leadoff single from
Timothy Connor, and singles from Gannon and Landman loaded the base paths. A walk from
Mike Siano brought a run home before
Matt Davis provided a sacrifice fly to make it 7-3.
The Polar Bears hung a crooked inning in the top of the fourth ballooning their lead to 14-3 thanks to a bases-loaded walk, an RBI single, and a pair of home runs. Bowdoin would further pull away in the next inning with a pair of runs to make it 16-3.
The last runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when St. Lawrence put two runs across home plate.
Ethan Harris pinch-hit in the inning and roped a single up the middle for an RBI, and was followed by
Nolan Widrick, who singled Harris home later in the inning.
McCausland provided 2.2 innings in relief of
Brenden O'Neil in the contest, while he was followed by
JJ Humenay (0.2), and
Owen Gray (0.1).
John Igoe,
Sam Fosberg, and
Brendan Young finished off the game with an inning each on the hill.
The Saints will be back in action tomorrow morning when the team returns to Northeast Regional Park for a doubleheader against Worcester State University starting at 10:30 a.m.
